Tynemouth Coastal defence Battery

The Castle & Priory and now unused Coastgaurd station

We are members of English Heritage and visit many various sites ,we recently went to Tynemouth Castle and priory a fascinating place with history dating back over 2000years ,but it has a long history as coastal defence site as well and the ww1 and ww2 defences and guns are open to the public  .The underground bunkers contain displays on how guns were loaded and munitions were stored ,a great day out really .For more info and pics on the many castles and historic buildings we visit my partners blog ,Winters wonderland  there is link to the right ,its general blog on family things but Elaine posts all the castle related stuff on there  .
