Some solo Gaming

Just spent a couple of weeks at our place on the coast and took some solo games with me from Mike Lambo and Minden Games , managed to get 3 games of Battles of Medieval britain ,realy love this game , 2 games of Torpedoe raiders ,1 game of Sniper Attack and tried a play through of Vimy Ridge but didnt get finishes as a friend turned up with a board Game he had bought cheap which turned out to be great fun , it was Top Gun which started with a game of beach volley ball to decide how the air combat part of the game commenced .

Pearl Harbour

Managed to get a solo game of Minden Games Torpedoe Raider ,chose the Pearl Harbour scenario and failed miserably .For my first flight I rolled to attack the Maryland and this didnt go too bad ,my planes survived and I caused 3 hits and some flooding to the Maryland. The second flight attack roll reulted in the Arizona , Again my planes got away with minor damage but all the torpedoes missed Third Flight Got the Nevada as the target but again no hits but the planes took damage Forth Flight again rolled the Nevada but were blown out of the sky without causing any damage Fifth and final flight rolled the Maryland ,with big hopes as the Maryland was already hit and flooding ,but no ,blown out of the sky again without causing damage ,not a day to go down in infamy . Sniper

Just spent a week in Scotland ,knowing we were in a pretty remote area ,took a good book to read and a Minden Classics solo game , this contained 3 WW2 solo games , Stringbag which seemed similier to their Torpedo plane game I have played a few times ,Penal Battalion which is a game of mine clearing and the one I chose to play ,Sniper Attackwhere you obviuosly play the part of asniper in different thestres of 2 . Again played by using standard playing cards ,great fun you play a mini campaign of nine attempts at hitting random targets gaining points along the way until you either complete your nine missions or get caught or have to retreat to escape , i managed 5 hits before my luck ran out in the first game. Not as in depth as the Torpedo game but still enjoyable.

Christmas Goodies

Had a few wargaming and military inspired prezzies including another 2 of the Minden games solo games ,a Army Painter gamesmaster set for terrain contruction and a set of their new air paints ,a couple more of the Mantic terrain crates .An addition to my zulu war book collection and although slightly off the scale 3 Olivier shakespeare movies that do include some nice battle scenes.Hope you all had agreat Christmas

Torpedo Raiders ,the Bismarck and Taranto

Played 2 standard scenarios from the Torpedo Raiders rule book,the first was the Bismarck action which resulted in a German Victory ,i lost one swordfish and only managed to cause 3 points of damage .The second was the taranto scenario ,I faired slightly better this time ,my first wave of 6 swordfish caused 4 points of damage to the vittoreo Veneto at the loss of 2 swordfish ,the second wave again lost 2 aircraft and manged 3 points of damage on the Littorio. Becoming addicted to this clever little game

Torpedo raiders first game

Found some battle boards on the internet and printed and laminated those and played a simple game using one swordfish against the bismarck .The game Played really well and is simple to pick up ,although i managed to lose the first one by flying into a ballon cable and losing my wing .The playing cards dictate what the enemy does and picking a card from your hand lets you deal with the enemy action or work out if your torpedo attack is succesful .In the full game you have one or more flights of aircraft taking on the enemy ships , each aircraft is a mini game and you play each aircraft in the flight one after the other so each scenario is made up of a number of small games which add up to determine your success or failure. Going to do the full bismarck game with the full flight of Swordfish .

Torpedo Raiders

Just recieved a copy of Torpedo Raiders a game by Minden Games ,basically a solo game where you pilot different types of Torpedo bombers on historical missions. The books an A5 48 page with card covers ,includes pages of aircraft counters to copy ,all you need to add is a standard deck of cards and 1 D6 . The scenarios included are -Taranto-Bismarck-Pearl Harbour-Force Z-and Midway then you get advanced rules for each scenario once you played the basic missions .The book also contains brief historical back ground for each scenario and a page of facts about each aircraft , the game looks fun and easy to learn ,going to have afew goes this weekend and probably buy the others in the series.
