Torpedoes & Tides

Doing a clear out I came across my coastal warfare collection of Royal Navy , Regai Marina and Kreigsmarine craft . I originally bought these for Warlords Cruel Seas which turned out to be areally rubbish set of rules ,so at that time i started to rewrite them playtesting ech set of changes each week and we got a really great game ,not to indepth but historical enough for a decent game ,so I tried to find these but only succeded in my rough layout and all the notes we made at the time , which I will sort out and get it all together but in the mean time I heard about Torpedoes and Tides . A set of quick play rules by Thomas Brandstetter available in PDF or a couple of print options ,I went with the Coil bound printed set . A very basic set of rules by todays standards , a small size in B & W but the rules are clear give a faily realistic game involving MTBs ,MGBs and Escorts & Convoy vessels . the rules contain 8 scenarios and stats for over a 100 types plus there are free downloads of FAQs , Secenario bookelets ,templates etc . I payed asolo game with some vospers against S Boats which gave the RN a victory , then played a 2 player game with John taking the Italians andI ran the RN ,this time the Italians causing lots of damage to my Boats but I amnaged to steal a victory by recuing the downed RAF pilots Game play is fast and furious which the actual battles were as they were usually fought at Night and at fast speeds ,really reccomend these we were palying just using fast play sheets straight away and we both enjoyed the game . So far there are no rules for aircraft or submarines but bot are not really part of the actions these rules are meant to represent . A selection of pics of my Boats/Ships and from the 2 games

Two new games

Got some games in using new rules (to us anyway ) First off got 2 games of Jugula ,I have been looking at this since it first came out and a recent sale at Gripping Beast tipped me over so the rules and 2 card decks then a few (toomany ) figures from the Crusader range at North star and off we went . A fun game that is really tactical needing you to make full use of the cards and picking the right time to play them . You get a paper playing area in the rule book and counters etc can be printed off from the website , you only need 4 figures per side or may 6 if you play the campaign the rules are easy to pick up and everything is on the quick play sheet .

Next up was a"board Game" John picked up Escapre from Stalingrad Z again another fun game most of the fun came when we discovered my chosed charactors specialist weapon was a spade ? . lots of fun and we played 3 games in around an hour .

HellBoy

Got agame of HellBoy the Board Game in at trhe weekend played the Gathering Forces scenario from the Wild Hunt expansion using agants Enhanced Hellboy and Liz Sherman with Alice Monaghan as aback up Agent . It is quite a short scenario using new rules covering the sceanrio taking place outside rather than in the usual rooms or tunnels , poor Liz got taken out pretty quickly but Hellboy managed to pluck a narrow victory Really enjoyed it and had alook at how many figures I have left to paint only 42 to go but at least one is a big model

IDF

Finished my IDF in 15mm for Cold War Commander , a mix of battlefront and Butlers kit , a lot of the Decals that came with the Battlefront kits were rubbish and broke up so a lot were replaced with Decals from Butlers alot better to use .

Hellboy

I didnt get any games in over the past 2 weeks but got loads of Painting done including some from the HellBoy Board game Expansion Big Box of Doom which were the Nimue and the Nimue in Dragon form and I also did the original Nimue the Blood Queen figure as well .

Staying with the hellboy Theme my mate John bought me a 75mm Kroenen figure from the first Ron Pearlman Film , a lovely figure so I bought a 75mm Hellboy to keep him company .
