A happy raffle Winner

I am always happy when I see the raffle prizes put to good use ,and was really pleased when the winner of the Poppy tea cosy and tea pot said he would use them ,how ever Tim either has a really  strange shaped Tea pot or he has found a use for the tea cosy that wasnt planned ?

Wednesday Night Gaming - Muskets & Tomahawks

A 3 player game with John running the French forces

and I played the Rangers who started off table

The side plots were :
John = truce
Ian = The Hostage
Me= Romance
All the officers were pretty much restricted by the side plots and when my Rangers came on table they stumbled straight into the Hurons and a bloody battle started .The game saw huge casualties on both sides with both Moral cards coming into play .The British won the game but we ll won our side plots .Everyone enjoyed the game and it caused alot of interest with other club members .

S&S Models

One of our long time sponsors for our raffles to support the British Legion is Shaun of S&S Models      . S&S make a superb range of 20mm vehicles ,terrain and figures specialising in moderns and they also do a nice collection of 15mm and 28mm vehicles and terrain .I personally have a huge amount of their 20mm cold war stuff (my faves are the land rover reccies ) and can only say good things about the products and service ,I once emailed Shaun asking if he did a peak turret for my Fv 432's and he replied immediatly saying no but would make one about an hour later I had another email saying they would be ready in a couple of days and sure enough they were !! . One really good section of the S&S line are the add on's for die casts and plastic kits that allow you to build those odd vehicles you just cant get . British Legion Raffle -last update

Today is the day ,the draw will take place in the War games Emporium Orchard square Sheffield at 1pm  tickets will be on sale there up until the draw begins on line they will on sale until 11am (you can still donate after that time but ticket sales stop at 11am ). Wednesday Night Gaming-They come unseen

My secong go at the new Osprey game  ,this time I played NATO .My 2 subs were tasked with destroying 4 Russian bases whilst avoiding there destroyers and transport fleet ,and even though I very nearly misjudged my battery use and had to surface at the crucial moment I managed my objectives .A very nice game with a

A sonar sweep almost caught me 

bit of tension when one of the Ruskie destroyers started a sonar sweep which my sub managed to stay 1 square clear of for 3 turns until I was pinged but still managed to sneak away and cause devastation. A great game which is also one of the prizes in this saturdays raffle draw at the Wargames Emporium talking of which the guys at Sheffield Wargames society bought a few tickets last night , they might win the entry tickets to Triples which they donated a few weeks ago ,Good luck every one .

Raffle Update the Dice Bag Lady -Dixon Miniatures and Flags of War

Wednesday night Gaming Corsus Honorum &Terminators ?

I popped along to Sheffield war Games Society last night to play a game of Terminator Genysis the new game fromWarlord Games and pay my subs  , Whilst i was waiting for the game to be set up John Armatys invited me to help play test his Cursus Honorum which I think will be a participation game at Triples next year it is a game were you try to gain promotion  through the ranks of Roman society whilst getting older and facing possible death each turn ,it was really fun and easy to learn and look forward to playing it again and also the RPG and Board game versions as well . The Terminator game was also fun and quick I played the Terminators and John Grayson was the Rebels I agve them agood kick in which at first looked the only outcome but with a bit more luck on the dice rolls the game could have ended differently ,the rebels do stand a chance and adding advanced rules and characters from the movie would add alot more . I am doing quick run down on my sponsors for my fund raising and i thought the best place to start would be Sheffield Wargames Society .I have been going to the club for over 20 years so I can honestly say its a nice friendly place ,there are always lots of different games going on and new players are always welcome. The Battles of Edgehill and Cropredy Bridge

Took some time away to do abit of walking ,always find it better in the winter there are less people in the way . We visited the battle fields  of Edgehill and Cropredy Bridge two ECW sites fairly close together .Edgehill is partly on MOD land but is visible from the top of Edgehill and as a bonus St Peters Church in Radway has a fantastic but small permanent exhibition to the battle which include the original effigy of Captain Kingsmill ,a local who died in the battle . There is great site about Radway with maps routes for walks and lots of links about the battle its well worth a look

There is very little to see at Cropredy other than the bridge and information panel but I always like to stand where the action took place and pay my respects to the fallen .

Osprey's They come unseen

Tonight at SWGS I played the new Osprey boardgame they come unseen a game of cold war submarines , its easy to learn fun to play and is quite gripping as well in our game I played the Russian Destroyers and supply ships John took the part of the NATO submarines on covert missions to destroy the Russiuan bases . After turn 2 I had sunk one of the NATO subs and thought I was on to an easy win 3 turns later I was in a panic as I was low on fuel and ammo ,the game ended in a draw . The game was designed by asubmarine officer and playtested aboard British subs so it is probably as realistic as you can get without becoming mind numbing ,the rule book is nice and thin ,no dice rolls but really fun .Also I would like to mention that Osprey have donated one to our Raffle for the Royal British Legion so buy aticket and get the chance to win this great game .

Raffle Update ...first Prizes in and ticket news UPDATED 22nd Oct

This years raffle in aid of the British Legion is well under way ,we have sent requests to almost 100 traders for prize supportand and have had a few pledges and even some prize support arrive! . Tickets will be 50 pence each and available from the Wargames Emporiums Store in Sheffield ,I will also visit local clubs if you wish and again the tickets will be available on line at £5.00 for 11tickets yes you get 1 free go for having to buy in bulk . National Memorial Arboretum
